Join a Developing Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Program
Kent Hospital, a Care New England hospital, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible general surgeon with fellowship training in Trauma/Acute Care Surgery to join our surgical department. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at one of Rhode Island's premier community hospitals as we advance our vision of becoming a Level II Trauma Center.
This position offers a diverse clinical practice encompassing trauma, acute care surgery, and elective general surgery, with access to the Intuitive Xi robotic platform. The successful candidate should enjoy teaching medical students and will receive an academic appointment. The service is supported by 24/7 advanced practice clinician coverage.
This is an ideal opportunity for a collaborative surgeon who enjoys broad-spectrum acute care surgery and elective general surgery and wants to play an integral role in developing our Level II Trauma Program.

Position Highlights
- Provide comprehensive acute care surgery services, including trauma surgery, acute care surgery, and elective general surgery
- Access to the Intuitive Xi robotic platform
- Shared call with an established team of surgeons
- Dedicated operating room access for acute care surgery cases
- Opportunity to participate in the development and growth of Kent Hospital's trauma program
- Collaborate with Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Anesthesia, Radiology, and hospital leadership to advance Level II Trauma Center readiness
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, trauma performance improvement, and multidisciplinary case review
- Opportunities to educate medical students through the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage acute care surgery consultations
- Perform operative and non-operative management of trauma patients
- Provide timely surgical care for emergency general surgery conditions
- Participate in trauma activations and acute care surgery call coverage
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Support trauma program development through protocol development, quality initiatives, and education
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
- Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement activities

Requirements
Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Board certified or board eligible in General Surgery
- Fellowship training in Trauma/Acute Care Surgery
- Eligible for medical licensure in Rhode Island
- ATLS certification, or the ability to obtain certification
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, quality improvement, and patient-centered care
Preferred Qualification
- Interest in trauma systems development and program growth
