Description
The Section Chief of Nuclear Medicine will provide strategic, clinical, and academic leadership for a comprehensive and growing nuclear medicine program within Yale New Haven Health System. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary section delivering the full spectrum of general nuclear medicine, PET/CT, radionuclide therapies, and an expanding theranostics program, with PET/MRI capability being introduced in Yale’s new $848M Neuroscience Tower.

Leadership and Administrative Responsibilities
The Section Chief will:
- Provide vision, leadership, and oversight for all clinical, operational, and academic activities of the Nuclear Medicine section
- Coordinate and lead regular section faculty meetings and communicate key information from departmental and health system leadership
- Collaborate closely with Yale New Haven Hospital comanagers, referring physicians, and departmental leadership to optimize clinical services across the health system
- Lead initiatives to improve workflow efficiency, patient experience, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Oversee clinical scheduling and coverage using QGenda, ensuring equity, transparency, and advance publication of schedules
- Anticipate staffing needs and make annual faculty and coverage recommendations to the Department Chair
- Manage conflict resolution within the section and foster a collaborative, inclusive work environment
- Complete annual professional practice evaluations (OPPE), FDAQs and support departmental quality assurance and IT initiatives
- Actively participate in departmental growth, expansion activities, and strategic planning

Academic and Research Leadership
- The successful candidate will promote and oversee scholarly activity within the section, supporting research productivity, educational innovation, and national visibility. Faculty benefit from close collaboration with the Yale PET Center and the Yale Biomedical Imaging Institute, with established tradition in research excellence and research facilities that include a medical cyclotron, PET radiochemistry with over 40 active INDs, high resolution brain PET-CT (HRRT and NeuroExplorer), 2 whole body PET-CT, 4 whole body 3T MR, one whole body 4T MR as well as state-of-the art small animal imaging resources. The Section Chief will mentor junior faculty in academic development, promotion planning, and career advancement.
Performance and Accountability
The Section Chief will be expected to meet annual key performance indicators (KPIs) established in collaboration with departmental leadership. KPIs may include section productivity, report turnaround times, live work incidence, protocolling efficiency, and other quality metrics.
Requirements
- Board certified in Diagnostic Radiology (ABR) and Nuclear Medicine (ABNM)
- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Connecticut
- Demonstrated record of clinical excellence in nuclear medicine
- Prior leadership experience or strong evidence of leadership potential
- Commitment to education, mentorship, and faculty development
- Interest or experience in research, theranostics, and program growth is strongly preferred
