DescriptionJob Summary
Responsible for the supervision and professional development oversight of the Sonography staff. Operates equipment; prepares examination room, equipment, supplies and medications. Provides for patient comfort and safety during examination and is receptive of patients' needs while maintaining open communication with the staff to resolve any conflicts which may arise. Accountable for assisting in the delivery of quality imaging, diagnostic services, and compliance with patient care standards. Maintains diagnostic services in accordance with established hospital, federal, and state standards. Manages the daily operations and collaborates with the medical staff, leaders, staff and stakeholders.
Job Specific Duties
- Collaborates with other departments to coordinate the daily flow of operations. Works as a liaison to work together with radiologists and other modalities as needed.
- Adjusts equipment, determines proper technique, & arranges immobilization & support devices to obtain correct patient position. Produces high quality diagnostic ultrasounds & repeats views as needed.
- Supervises staff, participates in the interview process, coaches and assigns trainer, evaluates technical quality of radiology staff, and assists with technical problems.
- Assists with ordering supplies, monitors inventory, maintains cleanliness of equipment, and stocks ultrasound rooms.
- Utilizes LEAN principles and tools to improve processes and promote patient safety and clerical excellence.
- Responsible for the growth & people pillar metrics to include department volumes, service excellence, Press Ganey scores, and engagement to achieve operation's goals/budget and patient satisfaction.
- Reports any equipment problems/malfunctions to clinical engineering department. Troubleshoots equipment as needed.
- Performs patient and departmental rounding. Takes immediate action to resolve any staffing issue and works to improve the Service Excellent Index (SEI), patient satisfaction.
- Accountable to edit Kronos in a timely and accurate manner. Immediately addresses any issues with tardiness.
- Performs patient identification check utilizing two patient identifiers per hospital policy.
- Creates an environment that optimizes the patient experience, supports the happy family initiative, and increases departmental SEI indicators.
- Conducts staff huddles, coaches staff, and attends monthly leadership meetings.
- Accountable for creating and updating departmental schedules. Ensures department staffing plan meets business operation needs.
- Actively participates in the performance review process through imaging and case study reviews, and validates staff clinical competencies.
- Independently functions as a Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist and meets all associated competencies. F: Daily/ T: 5 hours R: Individual
- Collaborates with radiology leaders, medical staff, and other leaders to foster a service excellence culture that ensures quality service, high quality clinical services, and support.
- Complies with all standards for safety, risk management, and infection control as required by enforcement agencies.
- Observes staff/student Sonographers and recommends proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustments, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety.
- Provides education and training to Sonographers and Student Sonographers in the utilization of new equipment features/benefits or scanning techniques and/or new protocols.
- Accountable for Ultrasound exam quality to meet the facility standard for quality before findings are released for interpretation.
- Provides rescanning support to Sonographer when appropriate to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound program or completed a training program in Diagnostic Ultrasound
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS - active and in good standing throughout employment
- Amer Regis Diag Med Sonography ARDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) Certification required - active and in good standing throughout employment
- 3-5 years of experience as a Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist in a hospital setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Previous experience in pediatric diagnostic ultrasound setting highly preferred
- Strong customer service experience in an acute care hospital preferred
- Supervisory experience is preferred
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office is preferred
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and react calmly under stressful conditions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, strong time management skills, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills
- Able to work effectively in a collaborative environment
- Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
