The Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Clinical Instructor faculty appointment within the scope of training of a Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA). About the Role
The Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA) is an integral member of the UNC Department of Radiology care team, providing advanced clinical support for diagnostic and interventional radiology services to enhance patient access, quality, and operational efficiency.
Working under the supervision of attending radiologists—and in close collaboration with nursing staff, technologists, and trainees—the RRA delivers advanced radiologic care within their defined scope of practice, institutional credentialing and privileging, service line assignment, and demonstrated competencies, in accordance with departmental policies and supervising radiologist oversight.
Core Responsibilities
- Perform pre- and post-procedure patient assessments
- Provide patient education and coordinate care
- Support clinic visits related to radiologic procedures and treatments
- Perform delegated radiologic procedures and image-guided interventions (as credentialed and approved)
- Assist with procedural workflow to optimize efficiency
- Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation
- Communicate clinical findings and patient status effectively to supervising radiologists
- Participate in multidisciplinary care coordination
- The RRA actively contributes to quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives, supports patient-centered care delivery, and engages in ongoing professional development. As a Clinical Instructor, this role also supports departmental education efforts and continuous process improvement to advance clinical excellence.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Master’s degree Radiologist Assistant program recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- Certification as an RRA – Registered Radiologist Assistant by ARRT
- Clinical portfolio documenting number of cases performed during the past 24 months
- Proof of maintenance of 50 Continuing Education Credits every two years in accordance with ARRT certification requirements
Skills & Competencies
- Clinical Knowledge: Imaging expertise and clinical ability sufficient to evaluate and treat patients within the radiologist assistant scope of practice
- Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Professional Knowledge: Application of pathophysiology and diagnostic imaging principles
- Demonstrated skills in physical assessment, consultation, research, and teaching
- Ability to obtain comprehensive patient histories, assess appropriateness of procedures, and assign protocols
- Commitment to maintaining competency in clinical skills and procedures
