JOB DESCRIPTIONWe are seeking a skilled and motivated licensed Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our Acute Care Rehabilitative Services team at Hackettstown and Newton Medical Centers. The COTA will support patient care for medically complex adults in a fast‑paced hospital environment. Working under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist, the COTA provides evidence‑based therapeutic interventions to promote independence, safety, and functional recovery.

Responsibilities
- Provide occupational therapy treatments as outlined in the Occupational Therapist's established plan of care.
- Assist patients with ADL retraining, functional mobility, therapeutic activities, upper‑extremity strengthening, cognitive strategies, and compensatory strategy training.
- Monitor patient progress and communicate changes in functional status to the Occupational Therapist.
- Document treatment sessions, patient response, and daily progress in accordance with New Jersey state regulations and facility policies.
- Educate patients and caregivers on safe techniques, adaptive equipment, and discharge recommendations.
- Always maintain patient safety, especially when managing medically complex or high‑acuity cases.
- Participate in interdisciplinary communication with PT, SLP, nursing, case management, and physicians to support optimal patient outcomes.
- Assist with equipment management.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist patients safely using proper body mechanics.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods in a fast‑paced hospital setting.
- Ability to safely operate rehabilitation equipment and adapt tasks for patients with medical devices (e.g., IV lines, telemetry, oxygen).

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program, required.
- Current New Jersey licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, required.
- Current BLS/CPR certification (or ability to obtain prior to start), required.
- Experience in acute care or hospital-based practice preferred; new graduates with strong acute-care clinical rotation experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage a dynamic caseload, and work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team are a must.
- Excellent communication, time‑management, and clinical reasoning skills are a must.
